Hunchback of Notre Dame, The
The distinctive voice of novelist Victor Hugo, so clearly heard in Les Misérables, is also the driving force behind this emotionally rich musical drama. The story of Quasimodo, the sweet- natured but physically challenged bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, has often been adapted for stage and screen, but this compelling version hews closer to the original novel than most, and is deeply enriched by the powerful musical score by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. The superb cast album, with its excellent leading actors, fine ensemble, and sonorous church choir, inspired the 2017 MTWichita production, which featured a cast of 80, including several teens and children.
Scenery
Based on a classical 2-story unit set design by J Branson, with additional moving pieces and flying elements to denote distinct locations, this 2017 rental package includes three large-scale flying cathedral bells (made of carved foam), as well as a spectacular “rose window” translucent drop.

Costumes
These costumes (approximately 300 pieces) were designed by George T. Mitchell and originally created for a cast of 80. Costumes include priest robes for a 32-member onstage choir, plus a large complement of gypsies, soldiers, priests, and medieval citizens. Specific headgear and robes depict 4 gargoyles, 4 saints, and 4 noble statues. Although designed for a professional cast of adult actors, there are also supplemental costumes for teens and children (but no junior-sized costumes for leading characters).
