42nd Street

The flavor and dynamics of the original 1933 film are evoked in this vivid and very complete reimagining of Gower Champion’s 1980 stage hit. From utilitarian rehearsal rooms to spectacular onstage pageantry (including a flashy Times Square for the final ballet), the swiftly changing scenic designs by Bruce Brockman and vintage-looking costumes by Deborah Roberts deliver handsomely.

Scenery

Lavish set design by Bruce Brockman includes drops and scrims (55′ wide x 26′ high), designed for speedy transitions and somewhat flexible stage sizes. Set pieces include the “Shuffle Off to Buffalo” train cars, the two-story Broad Street Railway station, the electric theatre marquees for the “42nd Street” Ballet, Dorothy Brock’s dressing room, the Gypsy Tea Kettle, and all other locations referenced in the script.
