Phantom (Yeston & Kopit)
Before Andrew Lloyd Webber announced his musical based on Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera, songwriter Maury Yeston was working on this version with book writer Arthur Kopit. Telling a slightly different story than the more famous musical, and featuring a highly melodic collection of totally different songs, this is a compelling drama with spectacle, suspense, and heart. This is the only version from stage or screen which actually depicts the first-ever meetings between Christine and the Phantom, between Christine and her Count, and between Carlotta and all the others. This version of the tale expands our knowledge of the Phantom and his parentage, and is a heartbreakingly beautiful show.

Costumes
The costumes for the Yeston-Kopit Phantom were designed by B. Modern for the American Musical Theatre of San Jose, and expanded by MTWichita in 1993 and again in 2005. Detailed and opulent, they can also be helpful if one is putting on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical The Phantom of the Opera, but the costume needs for the two shows are slightly different. Speak to the rentals director about these differences before renting this package.
