Unsinkable Molly Brown, The
After his success with The Music Man, songwriter Meredith Willson teamed with librettist Richard Morris to tell another all-American story, the saga of Margaret (Molly) Tobin Brown. In this fictionalized account of her life, Molly’s rags-to-riches journey is given a tuneful and mostly lighthearted treatment, leading up to her heroism in one of the lifeboats near the sinking luxury liner Titanic. A colorful tale which spans many locations, from Denver to Europe to the mid-Atlantic, the MTWichita production was produced during the height of interest in Titanic history, so there is additional emphasis placed on that portion of the story, with the deck of the ship faithfully rendered in one of J Branson’s many backdrops.
