Wizard of Oz, The

Since its debut in 1939, the beloved film version of L. Frank Baum’s book had been presented on stage in a variety of adaptations, usually incorporating the Oscar-winning songs, but unable to get the rights to the witty screenplay. Finally, in 1987, the Royal Shakespeare Company in England was able to create a version that included both dialogue and songs from the motion picture. The MTWichita production, initially created in 1996 and refurbished in 2006, reflects the Royal Shakespeare version (although the sets and costumes can be used with other adaptations; check with rentals director for details).
